Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is an evidence-based therapy intervention which has been very successful in helping people who suffer from trauma, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, post-traumatic stress and many other emotional disturbances.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, right/left eye movement and/or tactile stimulation, which repeatedly activates the opposite sides of the brain, releasing emotional experiences that might be “stuck” in the nervous system. This process aids the neurophysiological system, the basis of the mind/body connection, to remove blocks and support healthy adaptation. As distressing images and feelings are processed by the brain via the eye-movement patterns of EMDR, resolution of the issues and a more peaceful state are achieved.
EMDR is most effective when used in conjunction with other traditional methods of therapy, EMDR therapy can help clients replace their anxiety and fear with positive images, emotions and thoughts.
Each of us wants to be seen, heard and valued and many times, clients coming in for Couples Therapy feel their partners are incapable of providing a safe space for this to occur between them. We can work together to support safety and emotional connection.
EFT& PACT approaches include elements of experiential therapy, systemic therapy and attachment theory that supports each partner within a relationship to explore their feelings, behaviors and internal messaging in a connective process that helps couples to step toward each other in a connective and positive way.
Clients who are challenged with sex and/or porn addiction and other compulsive sexual behaviors may carry a great deal of shame and stigma regarding their behaviors. We utilize Patrick Carne's Task Based Model to support each clients recovery of their value system and begin to live in alignment with it.
I also provide education and support for spouses and partners who may be experiencing the distress and trauma of the discovery and disclosure of their partner who may be stepping outside of a coupleship for intimate or sexual connection.
